Description
The sister spice of nutmeg, mace comes from the same tree as nutmeg. While nutmeg is the actual seed of the tree, mace is the protective coating of the seed (the aril). Mace’s flavor and aroma differ slightly from nutmeg as it tends to be sharper and less sweet. It still carries the distinct nutmeg flavor, but with subtle notes of pine, black pepper, and coriander-like citrus. Happiest Harvest’s organic mace is sourced from organically grown nutmeg plants, where the aril is removed, flattened, and shade dried for up to two weeks. The orange/tan mace is then hand ground into a fine powder.
